Mike O'Donell yang berumur 17 tahun adalah bintang sekolah, calon penerima beasiswa dan pacaran dengan soulmatenya Scarlett. Ketika Scarlett hamil, Mike memutuskan untuk meninggalkan semuanya dan menikahi Scarlett. Di pernikahannya Mike terus berkeluh-kesah tentang hidup yang ia tinggali, sampai akhirnya Mike diusir keluar rumah oleh Scarlett. Ketika Mike kehilangan pekerjaan, ia kembali ke dunia masa lalunya waktu ia masih bahagia, masa SMA. Saat ia melihat foto masa SMA-nya, pembersih sekolah bertanya apakah ia ingin menjadi 17 tahun lagi dan Mike menjawab ya. Keinginan Mike menjadi kenyataan dan ia memutuskan memanfaatkan kesempatan ini untuk mendapatkan kehidupan yang selalu ia inginkan.

At 17 Mike O'Donell is on top of the world; he's the star of his high school basketball team, a shoo-in for a college scholarship and is dating his soul mate, Scarlett. But Scarlett falls pregnant, so Mike decides to leave the game and marry her. During their marriage, Mike keeps whining about the life he lost because he married Scarlett, prompting her to throw him out. And when he loses his job, he returns to the only place he's ever happy - his old high school. While looking at his high school photo, a janitor asks him if he wishes he could be 17 again and he says yes. One night, he indeed gets his wish and becomes a 17-year-old again. He decides to take this opportunity to get back the life he lost.
